Aims & Objectives
  • Provide you with experience and knowledge of traditional fashion design
  • Assist the local women artisans in the rural community

After breakfast, we’ll visit the workshop place, where you will be introduced to the basics of the world of design, materials, processes, techniques and more general knowledge about the program and what’s expected of you. We will assign you some activities to test where you can be of help, then we will make a plan for you to work on the rest of the week

You’ll start your project in the workshop place in Cajamarca, where locals practice a unique and traditional way of knitting, painting or embroidering clothes. You will spend your time with a local teacher that will show you how to make traditional cloth paintings and you will practice together with her and other participants.

After breakfast, you’ll go back to the workshop. Once arrived there, you will get to choose one piece (e.g. bag, pant, dress) you would like to create. A local expert will assist you with every step and answer your questions. You will learn to sew by hand or with a sewing machine as well as practice the traditional way of knitting, embroidering or painting clothes.

Your day will start with a visit to a local school in Cajamarca, where you will get the chance to interact with the students and learn more about their culture and life in Peru. You’ll attend a sewing class together with them and learn more about the traditional way of clothing manufacture. In the afternoon, you’ll go back to the workshop to continue your work on your garment. Finishing your day at around 5pm, you’ll have time to attend some activities offered by the school.

You’ll spend your last day of your project at the workshop, finishing your garment.

This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
