Aims & Objectives

The purpose of this program is to help you get an understanding of the manners, norms, and etiquette that is inherent in Malagasy society as well as show you around and introduce you to your new surroundings, helping you feel right at home in this warm and friendly community.

Schedule
Monday

If you have arrived to us in Mahajanga directly, you will have an Introduction to the staff and about our organisation - Introduction to our programs. After lunch, orientation about Malagasy culture and walk out into the town with your fellow participants. In the evening, you will be welcomed with an authentic dinner and an opportunity to meet other participants.

OR

If you have chosen an airport pickup upgrade, after an overnight stay at a hotel in Antananarivo we take an early bus for 12 hours from Antananarivo to Mahajanga. After reaching our center late evening, you will be welcomed with an authentic dinner and an opportunity to meet other participants.

Tuesday

You will have an introduction to our staff in Madagascar- Exposure to our Code of Conduct, House Rules, Liability Waiver, Evaluation Forms. Also you will be introduced about Madagascar and Mahajanga, Country & Culture. After having lunch go on a city tour which ends up with a tasting of Mahajanga’s food specialty in Mahajanga’s seafront. Later in the evening, attend the welcoming ceremony with an cultural evening.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, attend a language session where you will learn Malagasy language. Later during the day you will visit Miarinarivo’s Doany and its special village with sacred royal tombs. You will also learn to cook a local meal and continue the language lesson so that you can communicate with the locals better.

Thursday

You will start your day with yoga and relaxation session to treat your body as well as mind. After having lunch, you will depart to Reniala Eco Park and then go on a local trek to explore the surroundings more!

Friday

In the morning, you will visit to see the colorful sand filled bottles and raphia weaving craftworks. This will be followed by a picnic lunch since the last day of your introduction week is reserved to have fun. Then you will visit La Petite Plage which is one of the Mahajanga’s most popular and beautiful beaches, for sunbathing and swimming.

This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
