This medical program will have you in close contact with patients and medical staff at Vientiane’s medical facility. You’ll learn from the medical staff about the treatments they use for their patients, the majority of whom have medical issues concerning their limbs (arms, legs, feet and hands).

During your time here, you will:

  • Observe a doctor in his/her daily routine
  • Observe and experience common cases in treatments
  • Exchange medical experience and knowledge according to your ability
  • Assist with the treatments (occupational therapy), patient care and diagnostic examinations of patients where possible

In the early stage of the program, your placement should be understood as an observatory role and exchange experience, but as needs arise, you will assist with patient treatment, patient care and examinations where feasible. This depends on your level of experience. Occupational therapists will be placed in the rehabilitation center, where they can assist with physical exercises.

You will also be asked to engage with the local nurses and doctors in Medical English terminology and general English conversation skills for body examinations and treatments. You will hopefully end up learning some of the Laos language also!

This medical project will be coordinated by the organization’s staff and supervised by a staff member from the medical team at CMR. Part of the program fee will go to the medical center for the facilitation and supervision of this project.
