Those working with the hill tribe children will tend to be based at the headquarters of the Centre. You can expect to have various trips to nearby villages. You can help in the construction of bamboo shelters, the creation of clay pots and in the general maintenance in the villages.

Those working with in the schools and orphanages will be living in staff accommodation or with host families.

In all cases the accommodation is basic but adequate. You will have access to toilet and showers although you can expect to wash in a bucket when you are in the villages.

At weekends you can choose to stay in a local hotel in the centre of Chiang Rai (cost around £5 per night) or to return to your student accommodation.

There are good bus links to the centre of Chiang Rai and the cost of the trip is small (occasionally free!).  Internet facilities are available locally as well as in Chiang Rai itself, at very little cost.  There are shops and an ATM in the centre of the city.

In the longer term Changing Worlds will be offering rented furnished apartments in town.  We also hope to encourage volunteers to purchase bicycles (around £30) to get around the local area and to and from work in the orphanages.  They can then sell them to subsequent volunteers.
