- A visa for China (requires a visit to the Chinese Embassy in either London, Edinburgh or Manchester depending on where in the UK you live – we will advise) Changing Worlds will take you through the process of gaining the correct visa for China including gaining a letter of invitation from the relevant educational institution. The visa will allow you to stay in China for a maximum of six months.
(This does not apply for the zoo placement - for the zoo you require a tourist visa only. Again we will talk you through the process.) - All UK based travel including travel to and from London Heathrow
- Take extra money (maximum £10 for every week of your planned placement) to purchase extra provisions to vary your diet.
- Sensible clothing for teaching classes –sleeves down to the elbows and skirts to the knee length. Shoes should be plain, simple and perhaps most importantly comfortable. A jacket and tie is not necessary for teaching. All this can be purchased locally at very favourable prices.
As a suggestion we recommend you buy a cheap mobile phone on arrival to Yantai (no more than £30) so you can stay in touch with fellow volunteers and the Changing Worlds representative. Text messages are free within China.
